The
2000 Club was set up to raise money for refurbishments and
improvements at "63"; the Soroptimist Residential Club at
Bayswater Road, London.
The
fundraising takes the form of a 50/50 Prize Draw Scheme of which
half the proceeds are repaid to members of the 2000 Club in the form
of Prizes (this is a legal requirement); the remainder, after
administrative costs have been deducted, is donated to
"63" specifically for the purpose outlined above.
The
50/50 Prize Draw is restricted to members of the 2000
Club - annual subscription £2; a payment of a further £50 per
annum entitles the member to participate in the monthly Prize
Draw.
Prize
money is dependent on the number of people belonging to the 2000
Club - the greater the membership, the larger the prizes and the
more "63" benefits. Prize winners are notified by post and
a list of winners published in the Soroptimist Magazine and at the
Residential Club.
It
should be emphasised that this is not a Lottery but a Prize Draw,
which is open only to fully paid-up members of the 2000
Club.
The
Plymouth Club does have a Lottery Licence issued by Plymouth City
Council for fund-raising activities, as does the Residential Club.
We
hope to encourage overseas Soroptimists to become members of the
2000 Club as many of them use "63" and you will know that
it is a safe and reasonably priced base for them when visiting the
United Kingdom.
