‘Loves Me - Loves Me Not’ Bookmarks
AIMS - to raise awareness of increasing domestic violence in our young people and to have the bookmarks into local schools by September, specifically for Year 9 students as part of their Healthy Relationships Programme.
An article on Domestic Violence was spotted in the Plymouth Magazine, written by Rebecca Ellerbeck of Wolferstans solicitors. Realising that it would be useful to secure some outside funding for the project, a meeting was arranged between the two parties with a view to working together if possible.
Wolferstans very kindly agreed to a generous donation which helped fund the printing of 10,000 bookmarks.
The bookmark gives a simple message and is easily accessible to pick up and take away as well as providing a helpline for those who need support.
Helping the Homeless in Plymouth - Shekinah Mission
President’s Charity 2011 - 2012
For her charity this year, new President of Plymouth Soroptimists Joan Melville has chosen to support the Shekinah Mission in Plymouth.
Shekinah Mission, based in Plymouth, is an agency seeking to support people who are homeless, have substance misuse issues, are ex-offenders or feel socially excluded. As well as seeing to people's physical needs - food, clothing and washing facilities - Shekinah offers advice and support, temporary beds for rough sleepers, an outreach service, as well as recreational activities and meaningful accredited training for those wanting to deal with their issues and move on.
Joan started her year off with a bang by having a “Not the Royal Wedding Lunch Party” with everyone putting on their glad rags to celebrate.
