Club Profile

Anne Towill - President 20010-2011

Born in Exeter and brought up in Gloucestershire. Went to Plymouth University where I studied Psychology and then lived in Germany for three years before returning to the UK and coming back to my roots in Devon.

Worked in Crisis Intervention within the Social Care field and then moved in to the very different world of Estate Agency! Currently starting my own business in Reiki, Animal Behaviour and Life and Business Coaching.

I am hoping to provide a year with a positive outlook and plenty of fun. Whilst wishing to raise as much money as possible for my charity, I would also like to celebrate our members, our achievements and our goals.

With my partner Chris we look after my menagerie of animals! Three cats, one horse and a herd of goats who provide me with milk and meat.

My charity The Outward Bound Trust provides young people with many challenges and aims to increase their confidence and ‘can do’ attitude. I hope to also bring that to club. To help existing members recognise their skills and strengths that they can contribute and encouraging their participation in our activities and goals

The insignia of S.I. Plymouth & District was made by Plymouth silversmith's Paige, Keen & Paige and is hallmarked Birmingham 1931. It weighs 4 ounces.

The Art Deco design, unusually, shows the complete Soroptimist figure. A sailing ship commemorates Plymouth's maritime history. It is set with 4 malachite green semiprecious stones found in East Cornwall.

The City Arms were added later, donated to the club by Miss Dennis, Club Treasurer for 19 years.

In 1991 President Debbie Coleman, Fine Arts Restorer, arranged for the silver bars engraved with the names and dates of Club Presidents to be removed from the blue ribbon and made into a supporting chain.

Our Club meets on the first and third Wednesday evening of each month for Business and Supper meetings at the Duke of Cornwall Hotel, Plymouth.
